It feels really strange…
Even though I have known for two months or so that I am going to leave Mars for my new adventure, apparently the real awareness is growing day by day with the moment of handing in my badge, mywhites and key to my locker coming closer.
In a week from now I will no longer be (a real) part of the Mars family, but I am sure I will still feel part of this family for a long time to come. The reason why is the large number of great friends I have made working at Mars. Next to that I think having the Five Principles to guide us in our decision taking is very powerful. I am happy that our Five Principles are pretty well aligned with my personal values. Therefore most of these principles will still guide me in my new job.
Last week I said goodbye to my colleagues in Supply, my fellow Investment Committee members and I had a great leaving dinner with my VEG Supply Finance team and my line manager Mohamed. I was humbled by the nice words that were spoken to/ about me by respectively Ruud van de Nobelen, Fred Nieuwland and Mohamed Mejbar.
Reading the poem that was written by my team was even quite emotional for me. They did a great job of putting a lot of the things that I (apparently) told them into a great rhyme. I guess it was one of these moments that it hit me again that I am really leaving and will miss all the people I will leave behind!
So why am I leaving again?
For me it was a no-brainer. Over the last five years, my dad has been inventing and developing two devices that will impove the life of pre-term infants (babies born well ahead of the normal 40 weeks of gestation). My dad’s a great doctor (ok I might be a bit biased :-)) and also an inventor. But… he’s not a business man. We have been discussing the route to market for his great products a lot over the last couple of years, but I obviously couldn’t free up sufficient time in evenings and weekends to bring the product to market.
Therefore I have now decided to take a leap of faith! My dad and I have founded “Bambi Medical B.V.” and will try and ensure that the great products my dad has invented will be used in hospitals all around the globe over the next couple of years. I am really looking forward to this new adventure and hope to be able to improve the life of a lot of babies and their parents!
On my blog, I will try and keep a diary of my adventures as an entrepreneur. Feel free to provide me with a lot of advice! 😉 I will definitely need it! If you want to get an automatic update of new posts, subscribe to my blog and you won’t miss anything.
For now, I would like to thank all of you, great colleagues and friends, for the great time at Mars!
All the best!
